About Random Month Generator

Draw random months of the year with seasonal context, day counts, and a picture for each month

What is it?

Our Random Month Generator picks one or more months at random from the twelve-month Gregorian calendar and shows each with the information that makes a month a month: its position in the year (1–12), how many days it has, the Northern Hemisphere season it falls in, and an illustrative image. It's built for the everyday situations where you want a month chosen for you rather than picked by habit — assigning birthday months for a party game, rotating a recurring task across the year, seeding a content calendar, or sampling realistic month values for a spreadsheet or test database. Because February is always shown as 28 days, the output stays consistent and predictable regardless of leap years.

How it works?

Choose how many months you want, then pick a display format — Full Name (January) or Short Name (Jan). Leave "Allow Duplicates" off and the generator deals each month at most once, so you can draw all twelve uniquely; turn it on to allow repeats when you need a longer sample. Each result is selected with a cryptographically secure random source, so every month has a genuinely equal chance of being picked. Enable "Sort Results" to arrange the draw in calendar order (January → December) instead of the order it was generated, and copy or download the list as plain text when you're done.

Everything you need to know about our random month generator

Two display formats are available: Full Name (e.g. January) and Short Name (e.g. Jan). Whichever you pick, each result also shows the month number (1–12), its day count, and its season, so you always get the full context.

Seasons follow the Northern Hemisphere calendar — December–February is Winter, March–May is Spring, June–August is Summer, and September–November is Fall. If you're in the Southern Hemisphere, simply flip the seasons when reading the result.

To keep results consistent and leap-year independent, February is fixed at 28 days. The other months show their fixed lengths (30 or 31 days), so the day count is reliable for planning and test data alike.

Yes. Turn off 'Allow Duplicates' and set the count to 12 to deal out all twelve months with no repeats — perfect for assigning a different month to each person or task. Turn duplicates on if you want a longer sample that may repeat.

It reorders your draw into calendar order (January through December) instead of the random order it was generated in. The selection stays the same; only the display order changes.

Yes. Months are chosen using your browser's cryptographically secure random generator rather than a predictable formula, so each month has an equal, unbiased chance of being selected every time.
