About the Random Color Generator

Generate random HEX, RGB, HSL, and HSV colors with names, plus coordinated palettes — free and online

What is it?

The Random Color Generator is a free online tool that instantly creates random colors and shows each one as a HEX code, plus RGB, HSL, and HSV values and a recognizable color name like Crimson or Sky Blue. Designers, web developers, and digital artists use it to find fresh colors, build palettes, and pull ready-to-paste codes into CSS, Procreate, Photoshop, or any color picker. Because it works like a color wheel or random color picker, there's nothing to type in first — thousands of color combinations are one click away. Every result is also tagged warm/cool and light/dark so you can judge a color at a glance.

How it works?

Choose a Color Type — All Colors, Bright, Dark, Vivid, or Pastel — to steer the random palette, then optionally set a Color Harmony (Complementary, Triadic, Tetradic, Analogous, or Monochromatic) to build a coordinated scheme from a random base color. Toggle RGB, HSL, and HSV on or off (HEX always shows) and use Include # Hash to keep or drop the leading # in hex codes. Set the count to generate a single color or a full palette of up to 99 at once, with Allow Duplicates off for unique swatches. Colors are produced with cryptographically secure randomness — unbiased and impossible to rig — and you can copy any color or download the whole palette in one click.

Everything you need to know about our random color generator

A Random Color Generator instantly creates one or many random colors and shows each one in HEX, RGB, HSL, and HSV, along with a recognizable color name. It's a free online tool for designers, developers, and artists who need fresh colors, palettes, or inspiration without picking from a wheel by hand.

Every generated color comes with its HEX, RGB, HSL, and HSV values. You can toggle RGB, HSL, and HSV on or off, while HEX is always shown, so it's easy to copy the exact format your CSS, design tool, or code needs. RGB runs 0–255 per channel; HSL and HSV use hue (0–360°) with saturation and lightness/value as percentages.

Each color displays a ready-to-copy HEX code such as #E91E63. Use the Include # Hash toggle to keep or drop the leading # so the static hex value pastes cleanly into CSS, JavaScript, or your design software. You can generate up to 99 hex codes at once and download them as a list.

Yes. Alongside the codes, the generator labels every random color with its closest name — like Crimson, Sky Blue, or Pastel Green — plus warm/cool and light/dark tags. The 'As Text' panel lists all the names together so you can copy them in one go.

Yes. Set Color Harmony to Complementary, Triadic, Tetradic (Square), Analogous, or Monochromatic and the tool builds a coordinated palette from a random base color. You can also filter by Bright, Dark, Vivid, or Pastel and raise the count to generate a full palette of up to 99 swatches.

It does the same job faster. Instead of spinning a color wheel or dragging a picker, click Generate and you instantly get random colors — single picks or whole palettes — each ready to copy. The color harmony options rotate around the color wheel for you automatically.

There's no dedicated skin-tone preset, but you can get realistic skin and hair tones by generating colors and choosing the warm browns, tans, and salmons it produces, such as Tan, Peru, or Salmon. For a tighter range, use the Pastel or Dark color type and keep the swatches that fit.

The generator outputs HEX, RGB, HSL, and HSV — not proprietary Pantone (PMS) codes, which aren't openly available. You can still match any generated HEX or RGB value to its nearest Pantone equivalent using a Pantone color bridge or your design software's color library.

In JavaScript, one line like '#' + Math.floor(Math.random() * 16777215).toString(16) returns a random hex color; in Python, random.randint(0, 255) for each RGB channel does the same. Those work, but this free online tool skips the code — it adds names, palettes, and color harmonies, and you can drop its HEX or RGB values straight into apps like Procreate.

Colors are produced with cryptographically secure randomness, so the output is unbiased and can't be predicted or rigged. It runs free in any browser with no signup or install, supports every common format, and adds names and palettes — a strong, no-cost alternative to other online random color generators.

Tips & Best Practices

Pro tips to get the most out of this generator

Match the format to your tool

Toggle RGB, HSL, and HSV on or off, and use Include # Hash so HEX pastes cleanly into CSS or your design app.

Build a palette, not just one color

Pick a Color Harmony (complementary, triadic, analogous…) or raise the count up to 99 to generate a full coordinated palette at once.

Filter before you generate

Set the Color Type to Bright, Dark, Vivid, or Pastel to stay on-brand, and turn off Allow Duplicates for unique swatches.
